About Us
Shirley Chen
I'm a Senior at the University of Connecticut, studying nutritional sciences and food sciences. Food and nutrition has more of an impact on our life than we all think. In my family, food is medicine. Every food we eat has a special meaning to our health. Growing up with this custom, I've learned to value everything I eat. Studying nutrition at a university level allows me to have a deeper understanding on how food and nutrition works in the body. I am much more appreciative of the food we eat. I hope to educate people that they are in control of their health!

I'm a Junior at UCONN and studying dietetics. Nutrition fully caught my attention after enrolling in classes where I was given real world connections to the facts about food and health and your body. I love being able to tie it all together and help figure out the best way, for myself as well as for others, in maintaining or getting to that ideal healthy lifestyle. The definition of healthy is just as vague as how people perceive what being healthy really is. Learning from my own personal growth, I now wish to help spread the real true knowledge and value of being healthy and make an impact on how to get through to people. I plan on using my studies and experiences to emphasize the importance of simple things that people don't always take so seriously: nutrition, healthy body and healthy mindset.

I am a freshman at the University of Connecticut. I am currently a nutritional science major. As a child, my mother was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes. In efforts to turn her own health around, I found my passion for nutrition. I hope to pursue a career in nutrition education in the future. I love to be active and find new healthy recipes to cook for my friends and family.
